Pool conditions are not improving

Pool conditions are not improving

I AM a regular user of the aquatic centre and have been for the past three years.

I read The Courier article headed "Call for inquiry into dirty pool" and I agree totally with Mr Byrne.

The men's change room and showers have been a disgrace for a long time. They have been so bad that, when I take my grandsons to use the pool, I will not allow them to use the showers. Instead I take them home for a shower.

When I use the showers I wear plastic shoes as protection for the unhealthy conditions on the floor and walls.

I can not understand how the Ballarat City Council has allowed this situation to have continued for so long.

Surely as the owner, it should have regular inspections to ensure the standard of hygiene is satisfactory.

The change rooms may be 16 years old but were renovated approximately five years ago.

They do not need renovating they need to be properly cleaned. If the floor needs replacing, it is not because of age but a lack of regular cleaning.

It is with disbelief that I read that the YMCA has been granted a 10-year agreement to run the centre. Were the YMCA users consulted at the time?
