Mandy McCarty loses cancer battle

CANCER patient Mandy McCarty, who had a hope fund set up in her name in February, has died.

Mrs McCarty, 48, died on Sunday night after battling an aggressive brain tumour since last August.

The fund was set up to allow the Alfredton mother of three to join an experimental Royal Melbourne Hospital cancer drug trial.

It is believed the drugs helped her see her daughter Laura get married in March.

Money raised from the Mandy McCarty Hope Fund over and above the $20,000 target has been donated to the Neurosciences Foundation for brain disease and brain cancer research.

She is survived by her husband Leo, children Mark, Laura and Drew and son-in-law Jacob.
