THE 2012 public holiday debate will be reignited at tomorrow night's Ballarat City Council meeting.
Options on the table are Ballarat Show Day on Friday, November 9 or Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday, November 6.
Council officers have recommended Ballarat Show Day but Commerce Ballarat is leading a push for Melbourne Cup Day, claiming a three day weekend in November causes a loss of pre-Christmas sales to Melbourne.
Ballarat Cup Day cannot be considered as it falls on a Sunday.
Ballarat Show Day has been the public holiday for the past two years after a 2010 council survey showed it was the preferred day for most people in Ballarat.
Anyone wanting to make submissions on the public holiday at the council meeting can register with the council's governance team before 4.30pm tomorrow on 5320 5535.
