Phone books to go back to large format

IN what can only be described as a win for seniors power, Ballarat’s phone books will return to their traditional size from next year.

The publisher of the Yellow Pages and White Pages phone books has this week announced both publications would return to the larger-scale size in regional Australia from 2013, after receiving complaints this year’s smaller edition was too difficult to read.

Ballarat City Seniors Club secretary Margaret McKay said members had found the writing in the smaller size books impossible to read without the aid of a magnifying glass.

“The writing in the new books is too small and when most older people don’t use computers to find information, they rely on the phone book.”

The 2013-14 phone books will be distributed in Ballarat between March and July next year.
