Linda Foster, 26, claims she opened a six-pack of the iconic Queensland pre-mixed beverage to pay tribute to her late grandfather - a lifelong Bundaberg Rum drinker - after his funeral last Thursday only to find one can contained a rodent.

Ms Foster, of the northern New South Wales town of Casino, told The Northern Star she drank about half of the can before suspecting it contained a little more than rum and cola.

“The can was heavy, it felt like it was frozen on the bottom, but it wasn't that cold," she said.

Ms Foster said she handed the can to her partner, who tipped the liquid contents onto the grass.

“As he tipped it out he turned up the can and I saw the mouse was just there,” she said.

“Straight away I vomited – it was disgusting, absolutely revolting.”

Ms Foster told the Star she had called the company's consumer feedback number printed on the can and received no response.

A spokeswoman for Bundaberg Rum distributor Diageo Australia said this morning the company was investigating the "isolated complaint".

The company has sent Ms Foster a pre-paid mail satchel to return the can for testing.

"We take consumer complaints very seriously and have been in contact with Ms Foster. This is an isolated complaint, which we are currently investigating," the spokeswoman said in a statement.

"Diageo is committed to the highest standards of product quality and all our products undergo rigorous quality assurance testing at every stage of the production process."

Ms Foster declined to comment to brisbanetimes.com.au today, saying she was seeking advice from her solicitor about making further comment to the media.

However, she told The Northern Star she would never drink from a can again.
