On a night when Green admitted he "couldn't do a thing right", a dominant Tarver landed a string of fearsome lefts that rocked the Perth world champion.

Green's camp eventually called the fight off at the end of the ninth, with the 38-year-old clearly rattled by a flurry of blows from Tarver.

Green hugged Tarver as the bell went, apparently believing it was the end of the 12th round.

"Right now I want to chill out, take stock and relax," Green said.

"Getting healthy is the main thing for me as I have two kids."

Green was left apologising post-fight -  but it was in vastly different circumstances to his controversial bout against Paul Briggs last year.

"I'm so gutted I couldn't do it for you guys. I'm so sorry," Green said.

"It's been very tough for me and I thank everyone for their support. I couldn't do a thing right.

"I'm not taking anything away from Antonio. He always said 42 (years of age) was just a number and he showed it tonight."

Tarver revealed that Green had hurt him twice during tonight's nine rounds but he made sure he didn't show it.

He wouldn't rule out a re-match.

"Thank you Sydney and Australia for hosting this beautiful fight," Tarver said.

"You treated me with dignity and respect. Danny Green, it was a hell of a fight.

"He hurt me twice but I couldn't show it. If he gets healthy and fit, who knows, if he calls me maybe I'll come back."

11.05pm - All respect to Green as well. Admitted it was a night where he couldn't do anything right but said Tarver deserved to win. Hard to say in the first few minutes after a fight but Danny's post-bout interview sounded like a man who is going to weigh up his future very seriously...

11.02pm - Tarver says Green hurt him a couple of times but he couldn't afford to show it. All credit to Tarver, by far the better boxer on the night. Like the commentators said, hard to believe he's 42...

10.58pm - It's all over folks. Danny Green's corner calls it off - commentators say his brother Brendan made the decision. Tarver had landed a flurry of punches at the end of the ninth and Danny Green was clearly in a world of pain. When the bell rang, he seemed to think the fight was over. It was, but not because it was the end of the 12th.

10.55pm - Commentators reackon Danny needs a stoppage or a knockdown to win. Agreed, it's hard to see how he could be ahead on points. Tarver unloading on Green on the ropes but took a while to land anything too big...Danny Green thought the fight was over, he must really be hurting...

10.53pm - End of round 8. Consensus around the lounge room is that Tarver won it. His left is something to behold. Hyder says Green isn't listening to him but can win by throwing a right up the middle. Urges him to be simple. Is that the same as primitive? Who cares if it works...

10.51pm - Round 8. Danny needs to drop Tarver here so I can win our Innaloo Entertainment Centre sweepstakes. The nice punch Tarver just landed didn't help.

10.49pm - Danny Green is right back in this fight! Landed some great body shots in Round 7. Haven't seen Tarver this rattled since Sylvester Stallone got hold of him in Rocky Balboa. Danny's throwing some hurting bombs. Corrections on previous post, Danny's best punch was a left.

10.47pm - Green caught Tarver with a nice right. We're in round 7 and the American suddenly doesn't look so good. The referee has warned Tarver for holding and the crowd is starting to get involved.

10.46pm - end of Round 5. Tarver's camp said he "owned" Green during the break. Green comes out in Round 6 and lands a couple of nice body shots. Promising?

10.43pm - Tarver dominant again in Round 5. Landed a couple of nice shots. Green got a bit of claret comin from the nose. Green lands a good body shot - looks his best hope at the moment.

10.41pm - Much more of an even round. Tarver didn't really land anything. Green didn't either but Hyder tells him during the break that he reckons he's waking up. Urges him to get inside.

10.39pm - Round five, Danny Green still struggling to lay much of a glove on Tarver.

10.35pm - Don't know that Danny is doing a rope a dope here but Tarver's doing a good job of keeping him cornered with those big lefts. Just got word from a mate that Danny is from my old stomping ground in Woodlands. Not sure if that's true or not but we bred them tough there (I'm the obvious exception!)

10.33pm - Tarver landed a couple of quality punches at the end of Round 3. The one shining light for Green supporters is that we haven't really seen yet whether Tarver can take a punch himself.

10.31pm - Green looking a bit better in round 3. Hasn't landed all that much but got out of the way of a big left from Tarver. Tarver's reach is an issue at the moment. Referee warns both against holding.

10.29pm - End of round 2. Tarver clearly takes that one. Not looking 42 at the moment. Unprintable advice from Hyder in Green's corner.

10.27pm - Green knocked down by another Tarver left. The Yank has the upper hand at the moment. Looks super sharp.

10.25pm - End of 1st. Green more active, Tarver landed the cleaner stuff. Angelo Hyder saying Danny played into Tarver's hands.

10.24pm - Fairly cautious start by both fighters. Green goes on the attack and slips over. Tarver just caught him with a nice left.

10.22pm - And they're off....

10.21pm - Australian national anthem singer had bit of Mick Molloy about him.

10.18pm - US national anthem. Very well sung technically but I still prefer Frank Drebin's version from The Naked Gun.

10.17pm - ring announcer could be Les Murray's slightly younger brother. No mention of "fudball" though. Just saw Eddie McGuire. Wonder if he's had a bet. Could he be sounding out Danny Green for Collingwood's director of footy role?

10.13pm - the lights go out and Danny Green is here as well. Well actually, the lights just came back on and Danny's got Men At Work cranking. Really expected Mental As Anything's Live It Up might have been his entry music but nothing doing sadly.

10.12pm - Tarver comes out in a shiny blue get-up with Kanye West coming out of the speakers. Fair to say the muted crowd reception indicates Antonio is playing for the away team tonight...

10.11pm - okay, so it wasn't quite ding, ding, ding time but Tarver will be out any second now.

10.10pm - ding, ding, ding, big build-up, let's hope it's worth the wait...

10.05pm - Apparently the hold-up was that Danny didn't like his gloves. Changed them with the approval of the Tarver camp. I salute you Greeny - gave me time to knock off three slices of pizza.

9.58pm - Some kind of issue with gloves might be holding up the fight. Anyone else reckoned this might be something contrived to build up the suspense? Or am I just a cynical journalistic type?

9.57pm - Barry Hall says he'll have time off after footy and will consider boxing. Says a bout against Sonny Bill Williams would be a good fit but Sonny Bill is bigger and better looking than him.

9.53pm - Pizza has arrived, beer is replenished, now bring on the fight.

9.50pm - Aussie boxing great Barry Michael disagrees with Kostya and says Tarver-Green will go the distance.

9.46pm - Anyone else having a bet on the fight? Had a bit of a sweep here at the Inaloo Entertainment Centre. I need a stoppage by either Green or Tarver in either the 5th, 6th or 7th rounds.

9.42pm - And with that one out of the way, it's on to Green and Tarver folks.

9.38pm - Rabah just finished Hlatswayo with a series of lefts that would have done Rupert Murdoch's wife proud. Came out of the blue. All over at the end of the third.

9.34pm - Kostya Tszyu says Green-Tarver won't be a tactical fight and says it will be a war. Doesn't think it will go the distance. Living room table judges put Rabah-Hlatswayo at a round apiece.

9.23pm - Just spotted  rugby league legend Andrew Johns in the crowd.  Perth's Naoufel "Chocolata" Ben Rabah about to fight South Africa's Isaac Hlatswayo.

9.18pm - Cameron calls out Danny Green. Fair to say it got a lukewarm response at best from the audience.

9.14pm - ALL OVER. Cameron just dropped Vea in the 12th with three big rights. One left connected and a couple of lefts mised in there as well. The Kiwi makes it 25 wins from 27 fights, 21 by knockout. Vea loses no admirers.

9.11pm - Consensus round the Innaloo living room table is that Cameron had the better of that round. Bring on round 12.

9.07pm - Cameron-Vea going toe-to-toe at the end of the 10th. Great stuff. Reckon Cameron had the wobbles a couple of times there.

9.04pm - Cameron-Vea fight now into 10th round. Vea repeatedly bridging the gap here with his short punches.

8.56pm - Famous person #3? Water-skier turned boxer Lauryn Eagle. Looking very photogenic too. Cameron-Vea still very entertaining.

8.45pm -  Cameron-Vea fight really starting to pick up now. Not all Cameron's way either. Tarver wsa just interviewed, said he was feeling sharp and ready to go. That's a relief!

8.41pm -  Cameron got a little bit of claret over the eye but looking a bit better. Still doesn't have Danny Green's next opponent written all over him. First glimpse of Antonio Tarver down in the tunnels. Looking nice and focused.

8.39pm - Just think we spotted former West Coast Eagles full forward Troy Wilson. Not sure that he counts as famous person #3. Dominic Vea actually gave Cameron a bit of a test in that last round.

8.31pm - Famous count #2 - Barry Hall. Just sizing up a few future career options no doubt.

8.28pm - Famous person count #1 - Kostya Tszyu. Not counting the commentary mention of John Hopoate.

8.25pm - G'day all, thought I'd make an early start with Shane Cameron about to fight. Got my beers sorted, pizza is on the way, interesting to see Cameron is a Kenny Rogers fan...and that there's also a referee here for this fight.
