Just one vote separates the top three on the men's leaderboard for the Sportspower Burnie NWBU Player of the Year award following last Friday night's round of games. Leaders Paul Campbell (Ulverstone) and Mason Bragg (Smithton) both moved to 24 votes after picking up four votes each in their team's respective wins, while five votes to Jacob Richards saw the Penguin centre take his tally to 23. Only one player, Somerset's Mitch Dance, was awarded the maximum six votes for the round, after he lit up the scoreboard with 46 points in his team's win over Latrobe, to go with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Despite not playing on Friday night, Burnie's Keely Froling has been able to maintain her handy lead in the women's award. Froling has a six-vote advantage over Smithton's Abi Curtin and Wynyard's D'asia Chambers, who were awarded three and two votes respectively. Moves were made by the chasing pack behind that trio, with six-vote games recorded by Latrobe's Sarah O'Neill, Penguin's Tayla Roberts, Burnie's Mariah Payne and Devonport's Emma Menzie. O'Neill starred for the Demons with 25 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, Roberts amassed 28 points and 15 rebounds for the Lady Blues, Payne had 28 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in the Tigers' win and Menzie's 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists attracted top votes from each coach.
