Full job description

Responsible for coordinating WH&S on the National Tropical Weed Eradication Program including field safety audits and investigations.

Key tasks and responsibilities of the role

• Coordinate and advise on a broad range of work health and safety functions within the National Tropical Weeds Eradication Program. 

• Providing advice on and monitoring incident reporting systems and tools to ensure proactive management and reporting of WHS and rehabilitation issues and facilitate appropriate review and improvement processes.

• Conducting incident investigations and WHS compliance activities, such as field auditing.

• Developing, presenting, and facilitating briefings, workshops and toolbox talks for management and staff where required.

• Provide clear and appropriate advice on the application of standard operating procedures, risk assessments, departmental processes, relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and standards. This will include: 1. Management of hazardous chemicals 2. Reviewing and updating the risk register • Actively contribute to the development, implementation, and review of WHS policies, systems, procedures, action plans and initiatives and advise the Program on legislative obligations.

• Provide clear, timely, succinct, and accurate reports on the implementation of health and safety systems and practices across the Program and recommend and assist in implementing corrective actions.   

You must have:

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or willingness to obtain)

• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain)

• Licence (current unrestricted 'C' Class Driver’s Licence)

• Physical attributes (physically fit and able to traverse challenging terrain including slopes, steep gradients, and dense vegetation).
