The crackdown on alcohol and drug affected drivers will run until December 9, a period police say is known for high rates of road trauma.
Senior Sergeant Pat Cleary from the Ballarat Highway Patrol said speeding, distracted and fatigued drivers would also be targeted.
“All uniform members have been tasked to contribute to Operation RAID and the public can expect to see many more police actively enforcing our laws on the road,” he said.
“And the public can expect to be breath tested in both common and unexpected locations.”
Senior Sergeant Cleary said a 35-year-old Ballarat man was among those charged with drink driving.
He said the alleged offence would be a third drink driving conviction.
“He was caught down one of Ballarat’s side streets,” Senior Sergeant Cleary said.
“It reiterates that we will be working side streets and back streets near licensed premises and if people choose to drink and drive there’s a high likelihood they’ll get caught,” he said.
“We’re doing everything we can to catch these drink drivers.”
