Elderly woman robbed in Ballarat CBD

POLICE are hunting a man who robbed an elderly woman as she walked home in Ballarat last night.

The 72-year-old woman was walking home from the Regent Multiplex about 11.50pm when she was approached by a stranger near Seymours Hotel in Lydiard Street North.

The offender pushed the woman to the ground and stole a plastic shopping bag she was carrying, which contained cash and her cheque book.

He got into the back of a white VT Commodore, which drove away from the scene.

A short police chase followed, before the car got away.

The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.
