TRADING
THE SKINNY: Was active on day one of free agency when it lodged a bid for Port Adelaide’s Danyle Pearce, a former Rising Star award winner. The Dockers also pursued Sharrod Wellingham but the Perth native chose West Coast. Defender Greg Broughton was chased by a few clubs but ultimately linked with Gold Coast. The Dockers also threw in pick 60, with the Suns returning pick 37. Have re-signed Adam McPhee to a one-year extension. There is speculation Jack Anthony has quit the club.
VERDICT: Had a fairly quiet trade period but landed the man it wanted in Pearce. The Dockers wanted more run through the middle and Pearce will provide this.
DRAFT PICKS: 17, 37, 40, 80, 98, 116, 134
NATIONAL DRAFT
17. JOSH SIMPSON (East Fremantle, 18, 183cm, 72kg)
Onballer who spends regular time forward given he is a strong mark and dangerous around goal. Speed and agility make him a livewire.
36. TANNER SMITH (North Ballarat Rebels, 18, 194cm, 83kg)
Tall backman with good closing speed and a good reader of the ball coming in. Rated highly for his judgment in marking and spoiling.
39. MAX DUFFY (East Fremantle, 19, 184cm, 77kg)
Skilful half-forward with speed and endurance who enjoyed a good season in the WAFL seniors this year.
78. CLANCEE PEARCE (Fremantle, 22, 184cm, 93kg)
Much-improved midfielder who finally gets an elevation after four years on the club's rookie list. Finished 10th in the Dockers' best and fairest in 2012.
93. LEE SPURR (Fremantle, 25, 183cm, 82kg)
Dependable half-back is elevated from the rookie list after 13 games in his first season with Fremantle, including both finals.
PRE-SEASON/ROOKIE DRAFTS
Jack Hannath (No.8, pre-season), Jesse Crichton (No.14, pre-season), Matthew Taberner (No.11, rookie), Alex Howson (No.25, rookie), Craig Moller (No.46, rookie)
A club thinking big. The Dockers went for big bodies by selecting a couple of key-forward types in Howson and Taberner and a young ruckman in Hannath, who has established himself in the SANFL. Crichton gets the chance to add to his 17 career games.
