Campfires should be better monitored

With bush and grass fires raging out of control right down the east coast states of Australia and Tasmania, it was astounding to read in The Courier an article about campfires not being properly put out or left unattended.

Since fire restrictions came in, no-one is allowed to light a fire in their backyard, not that you would at this time of year, so why are people allowed to go into the bush and camp and light a campfire?

Shouldn't fire restrictions also apply in those areas even more than suburban backyards?
