And what better day to get up close and personal with one of the nation’s iconic animals than on the eve of Australia Day?
Well that’s exactly what the Vu children had the opportunity to do yesterday.
Visiting Ballarat from Melbourne, the family was one of a a number of international visitors at the Ballarat Wildlife Park.
Their father Bang said the family had visited the park five years ago to the today and loved coming back.
“We love Ballarat. Being able to touch the kangaroos and koalas is great,” he said.
“Our second son (Hoang) cried when we here last time when a kangaroos approached him, but he loves it this time.”
The family had spent three days in Ballarat and had also visited Sovereign Hill.
Mr Vu said he wanted to come back to Ballarat every second year after enjoying his time at the wildlife park.
There will be extra tours conducted throughout today at the Ballarat Wildlife Park to celebrate Australia Day.
