Last year was a bumper year for births in Ballarat, with 1791 babies born across the region.
The Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital welcomed 1292 babies in 2012 with 674 baby boys and 618 girls bringing smiles to their parents’ faces.
Another 499 babies – 258 boys and 241 girls – were born at St John of God Hospital.
St John of God midwife Kate Zakynthinos said she had been kept busy with the largest number of babies born for the year in December.
“It has been a busy end to the year particularly over the Christmas and New Year period,” she said.
Ms Zakynthinos said bringing a child into the world is a special moment for everyone involved and something that is treasured for a long time.
As a keepsake of the new babies born last year, filled with advice and stories of all things baby, The Courier’s, Our Babies magazine will be available as an insert in tomorrow’s paper.
