The sun is shining, the birds are singing and there is a flurry of activity and customers at Ballarat florists.
For two Ballarat couples, it is the perfect day to declare their undying love for each other and get married – on St Valentine’s Day.
Lisa Frawley seized her moment on Valentine’s Day last year, surprising her partner Jason Vowles with a romantic picnic by the lake where, just after their meal, Lisa got down on one knee and proposed, complete with a ring.
Lisa will walk down the aisle in Wickliffe on Saturday – as close to Valentine’s Day as they could – to marry her sweetheart.
The couple met in 2010 and have been best mates and madly in love since, combining their families for a house of five girls.
“(True love) is out there for anyone who has an open heart and willing to put themselves out there again,” Lisa said.
Sharee Edwards and Jason O’Callaghan will tie the knot today in a romantic spot at Kirk’s Reservoir.
The couple became engaged in May last year and spent a couple of months deliberating the best time to get married this year.
It was on Sharee’s birthday on December 6 that the couple chose Valentine’s Day, sparking a whirlwind six weeks’ preparation including the Christmas and New Year period.
Why so soon?
“Because it is Valentine’s Day, the most romantic day of the year,” Sharee said.
“It didn’t give us much time to prepare but we had lots of help.”
A Thursday wedding helped secure a location at short notice amid a popular wedding period.
Family and friends have all chipped in.
An aunt has made a material aisle for Sharee to walk along, a friend has made a wedding cake and fruit platter, and Sharee’s mum organised rose petals for the flower girls.
Sharee said it was a small wedding for close friends and family, including the couple’s combined five children, and there was an added vibe of excitement, because their special day was on St Valentine’s Day.
