More than a dozen uniformed officers and several detectives converged on the Gillies Street property and spoke to a number of occupants at the house for hours after the raid.
Neighbours at the scene were not aware of what was happening when police arrived in their street.
Some told The Courier they believed it was a booze bus operation until they saw the sheer number of police involved.
The massive police presence, including several officers wearing protective vests, was sparked by reports of an alleged assault, reported to police by the public.
Soon after the initial police response, police executed a search warrant.
A 51-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were arrested and interviewed following the raid.
They were charged last night with possessing firearms, trafficking drugs and possessing proceeds of crime.
They were bailed to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates Court at a later date.
Detective Senior Constable Paul Jolly said no one was injured in the alleged assault.
