The Selkirk Roosters last night unveiled Searl as its new captain, stepping up for retired back-line general Marc Greig.
A dual premiership player, Searl has played 117 senior VFL games and rejoined the Roosters’ leadership group last season after a two-year break overseas.
“To be captain is a great honour coming into my 10th season. I’ve been lucky enough to play most of that alongside Spider (long-serving captain Shaune Moloney) and Greigy,” Searl said.
Onballer Myles Sewell will serve as vice-captain with the returned Steve Clifton as deputy vice-captain and defenders Oliver Tate and Liam Hoy re-elected to the leadership group. Experienced VFL campaigners Nick Couch and Bill Driscoll have also been promoted to leadership roles.
Leaders were elected solely by the playing group based on those best modelling the team’s core values as determined in a pre-season camp at Lorne.
The RRoosters will face Port Melbourne in their first practice match on March 2 at Eureka Stadium.
