The 2009 Geoff Taylor Medallist has rejoined the Towners after two years playing under brother Rhys, who coaches SMW Rovers in the Mininera and District competition.
Cahir is one of several key recruits secured by the club under new coach Mick Taylor.
Taylor, who has taken over the role from Paul Jennings, said Cahir was a massive acquisition for the club.
“He’s probably one of Dunnstown’s greatest ever players I’d suggest,” Taylor said.
“He’s Dunnstown royalty. He really is and is still a very good mover.”
Taylor said Cahir had been back training with the club during the pre-season and that he would keep an open mind about what roles he would be used in this year.
Cahir is a four-time Dunnstown best and fairest and life member, having played 226 senior and 115 junior games.
He was a senior premiership player with the Towners in 1999 after returning to the club from a stint with St Albans. He was also named best on the ground in the 30-point grand final win over Beaufort.
Cahir is not the only former Towner to return to the black and white this year.
Leading goal-kicker Joel Murphy and Trent Brown are back from Lexton, while past club best and fairest Joe McKay and Troy Mullane are pulling on the boots once again.
Taylor has also gained the services of a couple of players from the Victorian Amateur Football Association.
Brad Hughes, who joins from De La Salle, and David Swift, from University Blacks, are expected to be good contributors this campaign.
Other notable additions include former Lake Wendouree onballer/forward Michael Neal and hit-up tall forward Lee Cleary, who also arrives from the amateurs, having played with Chadstone.
Ex-Rokewood footballer Andrew Malone is also a recruit.
Dunnstown has scheduled two practice matches ahead of its round one clash with Beaufort on April 13.
