The Pointies, which are seven points behind fourth-placed Darley and 10 adrift of third-placed Mt Clear, secured first innings victory against East Ballarat on day one of their clash at Eastern Oval.
Golden Point rolled the Hawks for 88 before reaching 3-130 at stumps.
An outright victory will certainly be in the mind of captain Josh White to give his side any hope of an unlikely spot in the top four next weekend.
Meanwhile, the match of the round between Wendouree and Mt Clear is in the balance.
The Red Caps struggled their way to 150 on a tough Wendouree wicket before being bowled out late in the day. They then snared an early scalp to have the Mounties 1-5 in reply at stumps.
Napoleons-Sebastopol made 162 and North Ballarat is 0-9 in reply at Northern Oval, while Ballarat-Redan reached 193 and have Brown Hill 1-43 at City Oval.
Scores in the clash between Darley and Coronet City have not been submitted at this stage.
