Nine schools in the Ballarat area would receive at least 50 per cent more funding per student by 2019.
Drummond Primary School and Yandoit Primary School would both receive the highest percentage increase in the Ballarat region, with 109.5 per cent and 96.7 per cent respectively.
The highest dollar increase will go to Ballarat High School, which will see its total government funding grow by 50.9 per cent – the equivalent of more than $8 million – to $22.7 million by 2019.
Ballarat MP Catherine King called on Victorian Premier Denis Napthine to sign up to the reforms proposed following the Gonski education review.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard has given the state government until June 30 to join South Australia, New South Wales and the ACT and agree to the plan.
“This is a once-in-a-generation chance to make sure our students, classrooms and teachers are resourced properly for the future,” Ms King said.
Ballarat Specialist School could potentially win 34.5 per cent more in funding per student, equal to just over $5 million.
However 12 schools, including Yuille Park P-8 Community College, Creswick North Primary School and Smeaton Primary School, would only get the minimum increase across the state of 19.4 per cent.
Under the plan, primary schools will get $9271 and high schools $12,193 per student in government funds plus loadings for students with a disability, students from low socio-economic backgrounds, indigenous students and small schools.
“There are two people standing in the way of our local schools getting this funding – Tony Abbott and Denis Napthine,” said Ms King.
Dr Napthine has previously said Victorian schools would end up being worse off under the federal government’s funding reforms.
Victorian Education Minister Martin Dixon asked the Gillard government to return to the negotiation table and discuss the modelling used to specify funding.
