Ballarat is blessed with some glorious outlooks, like the city as seen from Mt Buninyong or close up looking down Sturt Street.
This month’s Pride of Ballarat is focusing on Ballarat’s best views, giving you the opportunity to vote for your favourite vista.
So far this year, The Courier has asked readers to help identify eight best facets of our city through the Pride of Ballarat series, including heritage buildings, streets and even coffee shops.
Now it’s time to choose between Ballarat’s best views, including Black Hill Lookout, Dowling Forest, Woodman’s Hill and Wendouree Parade.
To have your say, jump on the website at thecourier.com.au, follow the link to Pride of Ballarat and vote for your favourite view.
Business owner Penthea Marshall-Radcliffe said the view of Black Hill was one of the factors in her decision to start her cafe Vegas and Rose on Humffray Street.
“Originally, when we moved here there were no other cafes around the area and it wasn’t until I was inside the building that was for lease and stood there looking out the window, that I realised we had such a beautiful view of Black Hill,” she said.
“When the sun comes out, the rock just glistens. Lots of people have commented that they never realised how gorgeous the view is from here.”
Ms Marshall-Radcliffe fell so in love with the views of Black Hill that she and her family bought a house with the same outlook.
“It’s very, very pretty. Black Hill is a lovely part of town,” she said.
For housemates Mika Wallace and Fraser Wood, living in Sturt Street allows them to wake up to a beautiful scene every morning.
“It’s best to see Sturt Street just after the sun sets or right before the sun rises, when it’s misty and not too noisy and just lovely,” Ms Wallace said.
“We have the best view for sure.
“It is a really beautiful view and it’s interesting, because not only do we get to see the lights and the city, but we get to see and hear the people.”
