He is the second person in the world to be sponsored by Yamaha and the first Australian to be sponsored by any major road bike manufacturer.
The 25-year-old started motocross riding as a five-year-old before moving on to road bikes and his interest growing in freestyle.
“I just saw some videos and decided I’d try freestyle and saved up as hard as I could until I could by my own road bike – I was 17,” he said.
Now based in Sydney where he performs weekly shows as well as tours, he performed in Mildura last week and is looking for the opportunity to perform in his home town.
“This is where it all started for me so I would love to have a show here,” he said.
“I have so many family and friends that have never seen me do what I do.”
In 2009, Mr McKenna was invited to China after being seen performing on YouTube
“They didn’t have anything like me in China and loved what I did and fitted their image and as the show was received so well I ended up staying for three years,” he said.
“After I returned home it really gave me that drive to pursue stunt riding full-time and make this my career.”
He said stunt riding on road bikes was still relatively unknown in Australia. “People know the Krusty Demons where they do jumps on dirt bikes, but not many know people do stunts on road bikes,” he said.
Mr McKenna has now been voted the number one street bike stunt rider in the country for the last three years.
First diagnosed with cancer at the age of 17 before it returning a few years later, Mr McKenna is also an ambassador for the Cancer Council Australia.
