What began as a joke in the kitchen to his sister Connie Johnson to break a world record and raise funds for breast cancer has turned into a story of brotherly love to help spread his sister’s message of breast cancer awareness.
In an effort to raise $1 million for breast cancer research, Mr Johnson set out in February last year to break the Guinness World Record for the longest journey travelled on a unicycle.
Tonight he will return to his hometown of Daylesford, finishing at the Savoia Hotel.
Event co-organiser Nel Staite said more than 200 people were expected to greet him as he rides into town.
“This is going to be the hardest part for him so we want the whole community there to support and get behind him,” Ms Staite said.
The Daylesford Love Your Sister Fundraising Event is set to kick off at the Savoia Hotel in Hepburn from 6pm with special guests Jennie Brown and Bruce Millar duo, Dj Zolly Gold, Family Farm Big Band and King Stone headlining.
Ms Staite said organisers had been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of everyone in Daylesford.
“We were overwhelmed by the number of people who wanted to donate, show their support and volunteer their time,” she said.
Entry to the Savoia is $10 for adults and $5 for children with children under 5 free.
Those attending will also have the opportunity to participate in a $2 mystery auction with all proceeds going towards the Garvan research Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
