The 17-year-old sprinter won her way through to the final of the Gillette Dash for Cash 300m during the Big Bash League cricket clash between Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers at the MCG.
Dobbyn’s narrow heat win in 33.43sec – from a mark of 38m and by centimetres from runner-up Jacob Reed – has helped her qualify for the final at the same venue on January 27.
National junior 400m champion Sam Baird, Liam Procaccino and Conor Nunn were other Ballarat athletes to run in the heat.
“Now that I’ve made the final, I think it is pretty exciting and I’ll just see what happens from there,” Dobbyn said.
“The crowd is probably going to be much bigger and probably be more daunting, but it will be exciting.”
The Ballarat Grammar student, who this year is heading into year 12, will compete at today’s Rye Gift meeting before a likely appearance at the Victorian Country Track and Field Championships in Ballarat en route to the MCG.
Ballarat’s 2012 Stawell Gift winner, Matt Wiltshire, will run in the third Dash for Cash heat on the night the Stars play Hobart Hurricanes on Tuesday, January 21.
The Victorian Athletic League is running the series in conjunction with the Stars.
