Acting on reports of a domestic assault last night and early this morning, police were hunting the 29-year-old man, who was believed to be in possession of a firearm.
Surrounding the house, they entered and found the man on the couch inside, according to Inspector Wayne Barclay.
“There were reports of a domestic situation in Gillies Street. There was an allegation of firearms produced,” Inspector Barclay said.
“The female in the house has left the house of her own volition and reported it to police and police provided a response.
“We had concerns for his mental health, we also had concerns for the fact we didn’t really know where he was.”
Having surrounded the house for some time, police entered the front door and arrested the man upon arrival.
The alleged firearm in question was also located inside, with further stolen goods found on the property.
“There was a decision made to enter the premises and in the premises he was on the couch,” Inspector Barclay said.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit arrested and interviewed the man yesterday afternoon and are expected to lay criminal damage and firearms charges.
