Officers would also be required to report more frequently to councillors about their expenses and there would be clarification on international travel delegations.
The council will tonight consider the recommendations, which came out of a recent review of the City of Ballarat’s Councillor Expenses Entitlement Policy and Professional Development Policy.
It was last updated in June 2011.
The review looked at what other councils provided to their councillors and checked that the policies were up to
date.
“The outcome of the review proposes some improvements in reporting to councillors and the community and some clarification of terminology,” a report by the council’s Governance and Information Services division says.
Officers currently report to the councillors quarterly on the total expenses for councillors, and monthly on their communication expenses.
If the changes are approved, the officers would check in monthly.
Clarification on international travel delegations is being sought, along with an “update” to the council’s child care expense guidelines.
