The Ballarat teenager raced a personal best time of 46.78 seconds in a High Velocity Club meet at Albert Park.
Baird is vying for a spot in the Australian squad for the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon in the United States this July.
His performance comes a week after narrowly missing a sub-47 second run in Ballarat for the Victorian Country Track and Field Championships.
Baird is building stellar form leading into next month's Australian junior and open track and field championships, which double as Commonwealth Games selections.
The Peter O'Dwyer-coach athlete is the reigning Australian under-18 400m champion, a title he claimed last year to help seal a spot at the IAAF Youth World Championships in the Ukraine where he was a 400m finalist.
