In the lead-up to the Harmony Festival on March 23, pupils jumped at the chance to soak up Latin food, dance and craft.
School captains Pat Martin, 12, and Alliyah Tuaine, 11, said it was a fun way to learn about another culture.
“We didn’t know too much about it until today, and it has been great fun,” Alliyah said.
“It’s always fun to not have to do normal school work.”
Pat said he enjoyed the Latin dancing, adding that the drumming had also been fun.
Mariana Paiva, from Ballarat’s Home of Latin Association (HOLA), said the workshops started in September last year and aimed to educate young people about different cultures.
“This is only our fourth workshop of this kind and it has been great fun for all involved,” Ms Paiva said.
“There are three activities for the kids including craft, dance and then it all finishes off with a musical parade.”
Promoting the theme ‘all of us’, the 2014 City of Ballarat Harmony Festival brings together the community to celebrate different cultures through song, dance and food.
