CENTRAL Wendouree’s A side has won its way through to the Ballarat District Bowls division one midweek pennant grand final, defeating Sebastopol in the preliminary finals at the Webbcona Bowls Club yesterday.

Sebastopol entered the match as the favourite after using up the first of its double chances against Smeaton in last week’s semi-final, but it was Central Wendouree that eventually prevailed, 81-66.
Central Wendouree has come from the clouds to be just one win away from defending the title it won last year, while Sebastopol bowed out of the finals in straight sets after a disappointing loss to Smeaton when it held all the cards last week.
“Heather Hopkinson’s rink probably won it for us in the end,” Central Wendouree ladies president Carleen Bowers said of yesterday’s match.
“If it wasn’t for her, the team would have been in trouble, but the girls are certainly going to have their work cut next week against Smeaton.
“They’re in with a chance and the girls are all playing well – but everyone will have to lift their game if they’re to win.”
Hopkinson’s rink scored a big win over Joan Dunn’s four, 40-15, which covered Elizabeth Kierce’s 25-12 loss to Sebastopol’s Jan Gordon.
Kay Geddes’ team brought the win home for Central Wendouree, defeating Cherril Helmore’s rink 29-26.
