Police have just arrested registered sex offender Sean Carmody-Coyle after a manhunt that lasted more than 24 hours.
The escapee was found in Ararat just after 9am this morning and is currently being interviewed at the Ararat police station.
Uniformed officers, detectives and the canine unit were all involved in the hunt.
Ballarat police also assisted in catching an offender overnight who allegedly stole a car in Daylesford.
FIRE
Ballarat city fire crews attended a grass and scrub fire on the Ring Road at Wendouree last night.
Yesterday afternoon they also sent breathing apparatus support to Daylesford.
Crews in Ballarat have also been sent to Morwell to continue fighting the coalmine fire that has been burning for weeks.
WEATHER
There will be a morning shower or two, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, before Ballarat gets to a top temperature of 24 degrees.
It will be partly cloudy, with winds tending southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h.
AMBULANCE
There were no reported cases of trauma in our region overnight.
SES
The SES didn't have to respond to any incidents overnight.
TRAIN
The Ballarat-Melbourne service looks to be running on time, according to the V/Line website.
