Thirty teams have registered for the event, which aims to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and fight back against cancer.
Wearing their distinctive purple shirts, hundreds of participants took turns exchanging their team's baton to raise money for cancer research and support services.
Beginning with an opening ceremony at 3.45pm, the relay will continue right through the night until 10am today.
There was a candlelight ceremony last night to pay tribute to those affected by cancer before a "midnight madness" games session to keep spirits high.
Relay For Life regional co-ordinator Regan Zaxos said there were more teams and participants registered this year than ever before.
She said the weather wasn't too bad overnight, however it did get a little cold.
"It's meant to get down to eight degrees but we encourage them to bring their winter gear for the night-time section," she said.
