BALLARAT distance runner Jack Davies and long jumper Ashlea Bylsma earned silver medals on the opening day of the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships in Sydney on Wednesday.

Davies finished second in the men's under-20 5000 metres.
He clocked 14 minutes, 40.16 seconds.
Morgan McDonald, of NSW, won in 14:34.41.
Bylsma collected her silver medal in the women's under-17 long jump with a leap of 5.42m.
The gold medal went to Savannah Peterkin from NSW on 5.52m.
The championships continue today.
SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR
BALLARAT sportswomen will be saluted tonight.
The Ballarat associates' branch of the Sportsmen's Association of Australia will name the 2013 Ballarat Sportswoman of the Year.
They will also announce the sportsgirl of the year, and present encouragement and administrative awards.
Retired Australian netball Sharelle McMhon is guest speaker.
DEREEL DOG GETS UP
DEREEL trainer Carmel Todd produced Bluey’s Dilema ($20.70) to get the money a big odds in the R&J Batteries Grade 5, 390m, at Ballarat greyhounds on Wednesday night.
Oriignally the first reserve, Bluey’s Dilema ran away by almost six lengths.
The son of Collision and Micra Miss is one of four winners out a March, 2012 litter – winning two of seven starts.
