The Ballarat High School year 12 student received a Victorian School Sports Awards “Sporting Blue Award” in a ceremony at the MCG.

She was one of 30 secondary students recognised for achievements over the past year.

Burton is one of Australia’s most promising teenage basketballers.

An Australia Futures Tour to Hungary in preparation for the FIBA Oceania Pacific Championships in New Zealand was one of the highlights of 2013 for her.

This followed All-Australian School Sport Australia under-18 selection.

Burton, who is now focusing on playing with Ballarat Rush in the South East Australian Basketball League, has also taken part in a Basketball Australia development training camp.

Burton was also a finalist in the Ballarat Sportswoman of the Year this month.

The VSSA featured 57 “Sporting Blues” for outstanding achievement in 18 sports.

Three teachers, two volunteers and three schools were also rewarded for outstanding contributions to school sport.
