The driver of the late model Toyota van, believed to be in her late 30s, suffered suspected fractures to her legs.
The passenger is believed to have suffered internal injuries in the crash which occurred just after 4pm.
Police, paramedics and fire brigades were on the scene, as the driver had to be freed from the vehicle with hydraulic cutting equipment.
Ballarat Highway Patrol senior constable Craig Walker said both occupants of the vehicle were lucky to escape alive.
"Yeah definitely, especially with those vans they're very unforgiving," he said.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
