The McDonalds Reds overcame giving away two penalties to defeat Goulburn Valley Suns 3-2 at Shepparton in division one on Saturday night.
Substitute Michael Trigger scored the winner 10th just 10 seconds to play.
Ballarat twice led.
Dom Swinton opened the scoring after just three minutes.
However, it was all square again after 19 minutes when the Reds conceded a penalty and this was the way it stay until half-time.
It was again Swinton who gave Ballarat the lead for a second time on 63 minutes.
And this looked like being the winner as the Reds went into extra time leading 2-1.
Unfortunately for Ballarat, Goulburn Valley earned a second penalty and did not waste the opportunity.
Ballarat earned one last gasp opportunity with a corner and Trigger put the ball straight into the back of the net from the flag.
