Advertisements looking for Dr Casey’s replacement were placed in the media across the nation at the weekend.
Catholic schools body Edmund Rice Education Australia’s executive director will appoint the new headmaster towards the end of May.
EREA director of regional support Paul Williams said the position was advertised across the country at the weekend.
Mr Williams said EREA took great pride in St Patrick’s College and the school’s achievements.
“Peter Casey has been at the school about 13 years, which is a significant achievement,” he said.
“We’re looking at the next chapter for the school, to find someone who can work closely with the school and the community.”
Applications close April 17, before a shortlisting process and interviews towards the end of April.
Mr Williams said the successful candidate would be announced in late May, with Bishop Paul Bird and Ballarat Catholic Education Office director Audrey Brown staying informed throughout the process.
He said Dr Casey had done a remarkable job improving the infrastructure of the school.
“He brought the school into the 21st century, even the 22nd,” Mr Williams said.
Mr Williams said St Patrick’s College was highly regarded nationally, particularly in boys’ education and with a strong boarding and sporting community.
“We’re looking for a leader in education and educational change, with a strong focus on teaching and learning.”
The selection criteria stated EREA sought to appoint an educator and administrator of the highest calibre, called to serve and utilise his/her gifts in bringing to life the mission of the Church through Catholic education in the Edmund Rice tradition.
Some of the traits required include a commitment to the Catholic Church and religious leadership within the school community, and holistic development of students.
