City of Ballarat chief executive officer Anthony Schinck said the council was working with her office to finalise a date.
Now heading up the Washington-based Global Partnership for Education, Ms Gillard was ousted as prime minister last June after three years in the job. She left politics in September.
The sculpture, created by artist and cartoonist Peter Nicholson, has been in storage since her initial 2012 sitting in Melbourne.
“Council has received confirmation from Ms Gillard’s office that she has agreed to unveil the statue in the Prime Ministers’ avenue,” Mr Schinck said.
