The man was caught about 5.30pm on Thursday after patrol members laid down stop sticks.
South Australia Police Senior Constable Tim Dodds said the chase started about 2.30pm CST in Coonalpyn.
He said the accused - a 20-year-old Wendouree man - allegedly drove off from a petrol station without paying.
SAPOL tracked a Holden Commodore with allegedly stolen licence plates along Dukes Highway, through Bordertown, until it crossed the Victorian border.
The car passed through Kaniva, Nhill and Dimboola before its tyres were punctured by the stop sticks.
Horsham Inspector Trevor Ashton said Wimmera police pursued the driver for a short time, but his erratic driving made it unsafe for police to continue.
The man was being processed at Horsham Police Station when the Mail-Times spoke to police on Thursday night.
"The likelihood is the accused will be facing some serious criminal charges, such as conduct endangering life, and some serious traffic offences," Mr Ashton said.
