A young man is dead after being hit by a car in Melbourne's east on Saturday night, making him the first person to die on Victoria's roads this Easter.

Police were told the man, aged in his 20s, was lying in the middle of Canterbury Road, Box Hill, when an east-bound car ran over him.
The man died at the scene. The two people in the car were not injured.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers were investigating the circumstances of the death, as it is still unknown why the man had been lying in the middle of the road at the time.
Eleven people have died on the roads across Australia and New Zealand so far this Easter, nine of those in Australia.
Early on Sunday morning, a man in his 50s died in south Queensland after his car veered onto the wrong side of the road and crashed into a pole.
Police have also recorded road tragedies in New South Wales, Western Australia and Tasmania over the holiday period, which include the death of a driver whose car hit a truck in northern NSW.
The historical ANZPAA Easter Holiday Road Toll, a joint initiative of the Australian and New Zealand Police Ministers and Commissioners, shows road fatalities recorded between Good Friday and Easter Monday in Australia and New Zealand since 2003.
Last year, five Victorians were killed during the Easter holidays, and 22 Australians in total.
