New driver loses car in Geelong road blitz

An 18-year-old man has lost his car just two weeks after gaining his licence following a police blitz in Geelong on Saturday night.

Police impounded four cars; three belonging to speeding drivers and one driven by an unlicensed motorist.

The 18-year-old Corio man was nabbed speeding 145kmh in a 70kmh zone on Melbourne Road, North Geelong, police say.

Two other drivers, one in North Shore and the other in Breakwater, were clocked speeding 116kmh in a 70kmh zone and 127kmh in a 60kmh zone.

State Highway Patrol West Sergeant Mick Pandik said the drivers showed ‘‘no regard for their passengers or anyone else on the road’’.

‘‘If those drivers make one mistake at that speed, it’s going to be their last.”

All four cars have been impounded for 30 days, and the drivers are expected to be charged on summons with various traffic offences.
