Burgess will coach the team for the remainder of the 2014-2015 Vic League 2 season.
WestVic president Mick Poulton has thrown his backing behind the Ballarat veteran and hopes Burgess’ tactics can lead to the side finding its best form.
“Nathan’s appointment at this time will ensure our Vic League 2 teams have every opportunity to be successful in this 2014 season,” Poulton said.
The winless WestVic currently sits on the bottom of the men’s ladder, alongside St Bernards and Box Hill after four rounds.
Burgess has a renowned playing and coaching reputation across national development squads, state institute programs and National Hockey League teams as well as South Australia’s premier league. Most recently he was the goalkeeper for Hockey Ballarat’s powerhouse club Eureka Golden City.
Burgess’ first game as coach will be against sixth-placed CV Blazers at the Prince of Wales Park on Saturday.
