Queen's birthday crowns up for grabs

Good morning long weekenders, it's a big day of finals on this Queen's Birthday holiday.

Ballarat Basketball Association's annual junior tournament drew more than 2500 basketballers to floors across the city. Titles are on the lines in boys and girls' age divisions this afternoon.

There is plenty of rivalry on the mats at Ken Kay stadium today for the inter-biased bowls championships with regions from across the state in battle.

Internationally, we're celebrating Aussie formula one driver Daniel Ricciardo, just because he's Australian.

Ricciardo ended Mercedes early-season domination overnight when he drove his Red Bull car to a memorable maiden victory in a crash and incident-packed Canadian Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old Australian capitalised on  power problems that hit both championship leader Nico Rosberg and his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in the closing stages in Montreal.

Also, congratulations to Ballarat's newest AM, Olympian Steve Moneghetti.
