World Cup fever is infectious and it seems perfect timing for A-League club Melbourne City to make its first on-field appearance in Ballarat tomorrow night.

City, formerly Melbourne Heart, is bringing its new-look squad, new coach and new attitude to Morshead Park to play a friendly against out National Premier Leagues Victoria club Ballarat Red Devils.

Stay tuned for the latest from both camps.

Our valiant Socceroos' FIFA World Cup campaign finished overnight in a 3-nil loss to Spain.

It was the Spaniards' first victory in Brazil but the Socceroos and coach Ange Postecoglou have evoked tons of national pride the past fortnight.

There is plenty to build on leading into the Asian Cup in Australia next year - and do not forget Ballarat will play its part, hosting the Bahrain national team's pre-tournament training camp.

The wait continues for news on Ballarat Miners' star Roy Booker.

Also overnight, Australian Sam Stosur bowed out of Wimbledon in the opening round but there are still lots of Aussies advancing to the second round, including polarising figure Bernard Tomic.

Ballarat's own Wimbledon singles finalist Judy Dalton is blogging daily for The Courier from the All England Club.

Their strength, flexibility and skill is impressive - check out competition preparations from some of Ballarat's promising gymnasts in the latest episode of From the Press Box with Melanie Whelan, your weekly online video that takes you behind the scenes in Ballarat sport. Click here to watch
