The Vikings ran out a 2-2 draw with Phoenix at St Georges Reserve on Saturday.
A clutch goal to Daniel Aggett in the final minute of the match saw the home side avoid yet another heartbreaking loss.
Vikings' forward Laurence Tombe opening the Vikings' scoring account with a goal on the 30-minute mark.
Tombe found himself on the end of a strong build up out of defence and was able to slot the ball past the Melton keeper one-out.
The visitors scored the equaliser just five minutes later.
It took Melton more than 40 minutes to gain the ascendancy after exiting the half-time break at 1-1.
Aggett drew the reply after a post-corner scramble inside the box.
Vikings stand-in coach Jonathan Davey said he was "very relieved" to get a point out of the result.
"We trained well over the week and we're trying to instil some belief and and some responsibility in ourselves for our results," Davey said.
"We've lost a few towards the end of the game and it would have been a disaster to lose after the work we've done this week.
"A draw was a fair result."
This week will see the Vikings face off against undefeated ladder leader Hoppers Crossing.
"They play the same formation as us and probably do it better than us (but) there's always a way to win a game," Davey said.
"We need to nullify their attack because they love to retain possession of the ball and run through the middle."
The Vikings now sit 10th on the ladder.
