The role has been created to further the university’s relationship with the community after its merger and rebranding. Dr Henson began at the university in 1996 and has undertaken a range of roles in the business faculty, most recently the associate dean international and partnerships in the business school.
Growing up in Melbourne, he has lived in Ballarat for almost 35 years.
He began his new position on Monday.
“As FedUni expands its geographical footprint with its recent amalgamation, which has created growth for the university, there needs to be extra work done to reinforce the engagement in the community,” he said.
“My position will entail broad oversight of the campuses, as well as a role in building deep and lasting partnerships with Ballarat community, government and industry stakeholders.”
Dr Henson said engagement in the community was a critical dimension of a regional university, more so than in the city.
He said many people saw FedUni as a part of the community, but there was opportunity to deepen and expand that.
