However, he only lasted a day.
Now an annual event, Principal for a Day gives local community leaders the opportunity to work within a school for a day to see how it operates.
Wendouree Liberal candidate Craig Coltman was just one of many across the state who took part in the day.
Ballarat Specialist School principal John Burt said the day occurred every August.
“Days like today are very important because it is getting the message out to the community about what schools like ours are doing and how we function,” he said.
“For the individual concerned it broadens their horizon about who we are and what we do, it is a bit of a starting point to spread the message about what this particular school does and the service it provides to students and families.
“I think that is very important.”
Mr Coltman said his board position with Pinarc Disability Support meant this experience would help him better understand how the school and organisation could work together.
“There is a great relationship, at the same time I like to think there could be an even better working relationship and I know the CEO and John (Burt) have been working towards that because at the end of the day we are working at the same thing,” Mr Coltman said.
