Co-ordinated by the Victorian Bands League (VBL), the event is run in conjunction with the Royal South Street Eisteddfod at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
South Street competition and marketing co-ordinator Amanda Fewell said the competition ran for two days and attracted bands from all around the state.
She said there were 27 bands including musicians of all ages and stages.
VBL president Megan Stapleton said she had been looking forward to returning to Her Majesty’s Theatre.
“Her Majesty’s obviously has the wonderful heritage but acoustically is also a very good venue,” Ms Stapleton said.
The 2014 Royal South Street Eisteddfod began on July 28 and will run up until November 2.
Debating, pianoforte and speech and drama have already come to a close. Bands and choral will run over the coming weeks.
