Ballarat's women's and men's sides finished first and second on their respective southern conference ladders after the first round of play at the Ballarat Futsal Centre on August 16-17.
Competing against Melbourne's Joma Jaguars and Altona Warriors as well as Perth's West Coast Futsal, Ballarat racked up three wins, one draw and one loss.
Coach Corey Smith was pleased with both of his outfits, and has expectations that they will make the cut for the Sydney-hosted finals set for early September.
"Our expectations are to get to the finals, and if we get there our expectations will change to enjoying the experience," Smith said.
"In the men (despite the loss and the draw) we were the best futsal side out there on the weekend.
"I don't actually think our women played to their potential, because we haven't been pushed so far.
"I have big expectations with the women (and) I think we can win everything in Australia over time but I don't want to get carried away because I know how strong some of the northern conference teams are."
Smith said Tyler Cameron, Brian Te, Matt Jamieson, Josh Ellen and Matt Hicks impressed in the men's, while Bridget McAdam stood out for the women.
Ballarat is now gearing up to take on its adversaries in the second leg held in Perth on August 23-24.
Smith expects to face a stronger West Coast outfit, and is hoping his charges can benefit from a match against another West Coast team labelled as the Australian Club Champion side.
The top three sides in men's division and top two in the women's will progress through to the finals.
