Year 12 Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning students organised events for Fiona’s Dream, an expansion of the Fiona’s Walk fund-raiser to raise money for the cancer research centre at St John of God Hospital.
Ballarat High senior VCAL supervisor Karley Gregor said the students had embraced the project.
“It’s really entrenched in the psyche of the school now,” she said.
Students finished a mural on Thursday, after voting on its design last week, covering a board with stickers to make a picture.
The students also put on a barbecue lunch and sold stickers to raise money for the research centre, which is looking into individualising chemotherapy for patients and the causes of Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.
Bringing cancer research to Ballarat was Fiona’s dream after seeing the work of her doctors in her fight against Ewing’s Sarcoma more than 20 years ago.
