It isn’t named after a fox. 

Faux Social Club opened its doors two weeks ago and has already found a niche. 

“We have been working in Ballarat for the past five years in a number of venues and found there was a gap in the market,” Mr Powlett said. 

“People are looking to go out, but don’t want to go to a big venue.”

The pair said their Mair Street bar, nestled between Jackson and Co and a beauty parlour, was quite intimate. 

“Everyone can come to the same place and drink,” Mr Hill said.  “People are there to be happy and social.”

Faux Social Club prides itself on a unique drinks list, selling everything from beetroot margaritas to an on-tap, and cheeky named, house beer. 

Mr Hill has worked at the Bridge Hotel, the Mallow, Bluestone and Jackson and Co’s rooftop bar. 

Mr Powlett has worked for Haida and Bridge Hotel and ended his contract with Bluestone this January. 

“We had 120 people here on our first night and everyone was having fun,” Mr Hill said. “It has been consistent ever since.”

Faux Social Club will close at 5am on Saturday and Sundays, making it the last night spot open in Ballarat.
